Groundhogs look cute, but they will make a network of tunnels in your yard and destroy it. Here are a few ways to get repel groundhogs.
Using a box trap
Through traps, you can catch groundhogs and can release them at some other place. Groundhogs are not dangerous animals, but they can bite when they feel danger. While using a trap follow these things
Use thick rubber gloves to avoid transferring your scent into the trap if they smell a human they will not go near the trap. Place the trap at a distance of 5-10 feet from their tunnels. Use water and dirt to camouflage the trap. Keep an eye on the trap when you catch a groundhog; leave it 5 miles away from your house to make sure it will not come back.
Vibrations in the ground
Groundhogs don't like vibrations, and they will shift to any other place if they constantly feel the vibration. You can place spinning pinwheels, vibrating sonic devices, and lawn windmills near the tunnels. These vibrations will scare them, and they peacefully leave your lawn.
Using smoke
Fumigation can help to get long term benefits. You can use gas cartridges available at the garden center or Amazon. But before using fumigation, groundhogs must be in the holes. Cover all the holes and start fumigation. Groundhogs will die inside, or they will leave that place forever.
Ammonia
Using ammonia is the most successful technique, just spread it around tunnels or spry inside the tunnels of groundhogs. The smell of ammonia will make it difficult for them to stay there. You have used this ammonia for several days if you want to get the best results. For making a strong repellent, you can mix ammonia with water and detergent and spray it near affected areas.
Dog or cat
Dog and cat are predators for groundhogs. If they find a dog or cat, they will move to some other place as that place is not peaceful for them to live. If you don't want to keep a cat or dog, you can use the urine and hairs of these animals to scare groundhogs. You should pour urine regularly for a few days to get rid permanently from groundhogs.
Using Lime
Lime burns the feet of groundhogs you can spread it into their holes; lime will force them to go away, or you can spread lime around plants to save your plants from groundhogs.
Talcum Powder
Groundhogs hate talcum powder. This is not too effective but can help to prevent groundhogs from eating your garden. It is a temporary solution.
Sprinkle human hairs
The scent of humans scares groundhogs, take your hairs inside a mesh bag, and place it in your garden. They will naturally become scared and will not enter into your yard. You can throw your hairs inside and near tunnels to make them scared.
Fence
You can use a 2 feet deep and 3 feet tall fence to block the entrance of groundhogs. 3Feet tall fence will make it difficult for groundhogs to jump inside. You can use chicken wire around your plants to protect them.
